The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation called off its scheduled house meeting after an AAP councillor died, with members observing a two‑minute silence in his memory.
Ludhiana's municipal corporation announced the cancellation of its planned house meeting after the death of a sitting councillor belonging to the Aam Aadmi Party. The decision was taken to allow members to pay their respects and avoid proceeding with official business in the immediate aftermath.
Council members gathered in the council chamber observed a two‑minute moment of silence, a customary tribute in Indian legislative bodies when a colleague passes away. The silence was observed before the agenda was formally adjourned for the day.
The council has not released further details about the councillor's identity or the circumstances of the death, stating that a formal notice will be issued in due course. The municipal administration will reschedule the cancelled meeting at a later date.
Local authorities have been informed, and standard protocols for handling the vacancy, including a possible by‑poll, will be followed as per state regulations.
