Farmers in Ludhiana staged a protest on Thursday demanding the supply of DAP fertilizer, citing acute shortages that threaten their sowing plans. The demonstration was organized by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal) and drew a sizable crowd of agri‑workers.
Farmers gathered at a central point in Ludhiana on Thursday, holding placards and chanting slogans to highlight the scarcity of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertilizer. The protest, coordinated by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Lakhowal), attracted a large number of agri‑workers from surrounding villages.
The participants warned that the shortage of DAP, a key nutrient for wheat and other staple crops, could severely affect the upcoming sowing season and reduce yields. They alleged that delayed deliveries from state agencies and distributors have left many farms without the essential input.
Representatives of the BKU appealed to local agricultural officials present at the site, urging immediate action to ensure the timely release of the fertilizer stocks. The farmers emphasized that without prompt intervention, the shortage could translate into financial losses for the farming community.
The demonstration remained peaceful, with organizers emphasizing that their demand is solely the restoration of regular DAP supplies to safeguard the region’s agricultural output.
