As floodwaters linger in Lucknow, residents are staying under tarpaulins and moving to boats, fearing that their belongings may be stolen if they leave their homes.
Heavy rains have left large parts of Lucknow submerged, forcing thousands of residents to seek shelter under makeshift tarpaulins. The rising water has turned streets into channels, and many families are unable to return to their regular homes.
Amid the chaos, a growing number of flood‑affected people are boarding small boats, not to escape the water but to protect their possessions. They fear that abandoning their homes, even temporarily, could invite theft of valuables and essential items.
Despite the danger posed by the flood, many refuse to abandon their houses entirely, choosing instead to stay under the tarps and keep a watchful eye on their property. Local volunteers have been seen assisting those who move to boats, helping them secure belongings while waiting for the water to recede.
