A low-pressure system is expected to bring intense rainfall across Odisha for the next four days, prompting a heavy rain alert.

The India Meteorological Department has identified a low-pressure area moving over the Bay of Bengal that will intensify moisture inflow into Odisha, leading to prolonged heavy showers for the next four days. The system is projected to deliver rainfall amounts exceeding the normal daily averages in several districts.

State authorities have issued a heavy rain alert, urging local administrations to activate disaster response teams and monitor water levels in rivers and low-lying areas. Preliminary forecasts indicate a heightened risk of flash floods and waterlogging in urban centers and agricultural zones.

Meteorologists warned that the heaviest precipitation is likely between 10 am and 8 pm each day, with peak intensity expected on the second and third days of the spell. They also highlighted that the low-pressure system could linger, extending the period of adverse weather beyond the initial forecast.

Residents are advised to stay updated through official channels, avoid non-essential travel during peak rain periods, and secure property against potential water damage. Emergency helplines have been activated to assist those affected by sudden flooding or landslides.
