Assamese boxer Lovlina Borgohain has declared her confidence that India will secure its first medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, vowing to fight for a bronze in the women’s 60kg category.

Borgohain, who won bronze in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, said the team’s preparation and her own form give her a strong chance of adding to India’s medal tally.

The Games, which began earlier this week, have already seen India win medals in athletics, wrestling and badminton.

Her statement comes amid growing anticipation in Assam, where fans and officials alike are hopeful that the boxer’s performance will bring home the nation’s first podium finish.

Officials have praised her determination, noting that her success could inspire a new generation of Indian boxers.
