A lone lion covered about 100 kilometres in Gujarat, providing crucial data that helped authorities confirm a 150‑kilometre wildlife corridor linking fragmented habitats.

A solitary lion was recorded moving roughly 100 kilometres across Gujarat’s semi‑arid landscape, a distance that researchers used to trace a potential wildlife passage. The animal’s movement was captured through GPS collars deployed by the state’s forest department as part of a broader monitoring programme.

Analysis of the tracking data revealed a continuous stretch of about 150 kilometres that connects several isolated forest patches and grasslands. This corridor is expected to facilitate safe movement of apex predators such as lions and leopards, reducing human‑wildlife conflict and enhancing genetic exchange.

State officials said the findings will be incorporated into the final design of Gujarat’s new wildlife corridor, with plans for habitat restoration, anti‑poaching patrols and community awareness drives to ensure its long‑term viability.
