A ₹9 million lift installed on Platform 2 at Tikamgarh station fell about five feet while carrying more than six passengers, narrowly avoiding a major accident as it got stuck in a buffer spring.

A lift worth around ₹9 million, which had been commissioned on Platform 2 of Tikamgarh railway station two months ago, collapsed while more than six commuters were inside. The cabin dropped roughly five feet before coming to a halt.

Preliminary reports indicate that the lift became trapped in a buffer spring, which prevented it from falling further and possibly averting a more serious tragedy. Railway officials said the equipment had passed standard safety checks at the time of installation.

Emergency services reached the scene promptly, providing medical aid to the injured passengers. No fatalities have been reported, though several commuters required treatment for minor injuries.

The incident has prompted the railway authorities to launch an investigation into the lift’s maintenance records and to reassess safety protocols for similar installations across the network.
