A leopard entered the Farm Villa colony in Bihadiya, Indore on Sunday night, prompting panic among residents and a forest‑department search operation.
A leopard was sighted inside the Farm Villa residential colony in the Bihadiya gram panchayat of Indore on Sunday night, causing widespread alarm among the neighbourhood. Residents reported hearing rustling sounds before spotting the animal moving through the compound, and many fled their homes in fear.
The same leopard had been captured on CCTV footage on September 16 and again on September 18, indicating that the animal has been roaming near the colony for several days. The repeated sightings raised concerns among locals, but the recent intrusion marked the first confirmed entry into a private dwelling area.
Following the report, a team from the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department arrived promptly and launched a search operation. Officers cordoned off the affected blocks, deployed spotlights and used trained dogs to track the animal's movements while urging residents to stay indoors.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid stepping outside after dark and to report any further wildlife activity immediately. The forest officials are coordinating with local police to ensure a safe capture or relocation of the leopard, aiming to prevent any potential injury to civilians.
The incident underscores the growing interface between urban expansion and wildlife habitats in central India, prompting calls for better fencing and community awareness programs in fringe areas of Indore.
