A leopard was spotted wandering the Bedwas residential neighbourhood of Udaipur on Saturday morning, where it killed a dog and lingered for about fifteen to twenty minutes before being reported to authorities.

On Saturday early morning, residents of the Bedwas locality in Udaipur reported a leopard moving through the narrow lanes of the neighbourhood. CCTV footage captured the big cat walking calmly before it pounced on a stray dog, killing the animal on the spot.

The leopard remained in the area for roughly fifteen to twenty minutes, during which it was seen pacing along the streets and occasionally looking back as if aware of onlookers. No other humans were reported injured, but the presence of a wild predator in a densely populated zone caused panic among the locals.

Neighbourhood elders and shop owners gathered near the spot and appealed to the Rajasthan Forest Department to intervene and capture the animal safely. They expressed concerns about the safety of children and pets, urging immediate action to prevent any further incidents.

Forest officials were notified and are expected to dispatch a wildlife response team to the site. The department typically uses tranquilizer darts to immobilise such animals before transporting them to a sanctuary, but a final decision will depend on the leopard’s exact location and behaviour.

The incident underscores the growing interface between urban expansion and wildlife habitats in Rajasthan, prompting calls for better monitoring and rapid response mechanisms in city fringes.
