The Kuki‑Zo Council has warned that it will pull its elected representatives from the Manipur state government unless armed groups reconsider their truce agreements.
The Kuki‑Zo Council, an umbrella body representing Kuki and Zo communities in Manipur, issued a statement today warning that it would withdraw its elected members from the state cabinet unless armed groups reconsider their existing truce agreements.
The council said the truce pact, which has been in place to curb violence in the region, has not yielded the expected peace and has left many communities feeling insecure. It called for a review of the terms and a more inclusive dialogue.
If the council follows through, the Manipur government could lose several seats in the legislative assembly, potentially destabilising the current coalition and affecting governance.
Officials from the state government have not yet responded publicly, while leaders of the armed groups have urged the council to maintain the truce to avoid further unrest.
