The Kuki Inpi organization has denounced the recent arrest of seven villagers and claimed that security forces used force against protesters in Kangpokpi district, Manipur.
Kuki Inpi, the apex body representing the Kuki community in Manipur, issued a strong statement condemning the detention of seven villagers in Kangpokpi district. The organization alleges that the arrests were part of a broader crackdown on local protesters who had gathered to voice grievances over recent administrative decisions.
According to the statement, the detained villagers were taken into custody without clear charges, and members of the protest were subjected to physical force by security personnel. Kuki Inpi demanded immediate release of the arrested individuals and called for an independent inquiry into the alleged use of excessive force.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in Manipur's hill districts, where ethnic groups have been protesting perceived marginalisation. State authorities have not yet responded publicly to the organization’s accusations, and the situation remains under close watch by civil society groups.
Kuki Inpi urged the government to respect democratic rights and to engage in dialogue with community leaders to address the underlying issues that sparked the protests.
