By Saturday, 42 candidates have submitted their nominations for the upcoming Kota Municipal Corporation elections, which began on August 27.

The nomination window for the Kota Municipal Corporation elections opened on August 27, and by Saturday a total of 42 candidates had filed their papers with the election authorities. The deadline for submitting nominations is set for the end of the week, prompting a flurry of activity among aspirants.

Both the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party have seen a surge of early entrants, with several hopefuls filing before their parties release official candidate lists. This early rush reflects the intense competition for control of the 70‑member corporation that governs the city’s civic services.

Election officials said they will now verify the submitted nominations, scrutinising eligibility criteria such as age, criminal records and financial disclosures. Once the verification is complete, the final list of candidates will be published, and campaigning will intensify ahead of the poll date.

The municipal election is viewed as a bellwether for state‑level politics in Rajasthan, as local issues like water supply, waste management and urban infrastructure dominate voter concerns.
