Kolkata to Welcome Heavy Rains Next Week, Weather Forecast Says

The Meteorological Department has projected a significant return of rainfall over Kolkata next week, promising relief from the prolonged dry spell.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather bulletin indicating that Kolkata will experience a substantial return of rainfall during the coming week, a change from the recent dry conditions.

According to the forecast, cloud cover is expected to increase across the city, with showers likely to begin early Monday and continue intermittently until Friday. The department estimates that daily rainfall could reach 20–30 mm, which would be a marked improvement over the last two weeks of scant precipitation.

Local authorities have advised residents to stay alert for potential flooding in low-lying areas, especially in the eastern and southern parts of the metropolis. Traffic and public transport services may be affected during heavy showers, and commuters are urged to plan accordingly.

Meteorologists say the upcoming rains are part of a larger monsoon pattern moving into the eastern plains, and they predict that the wet spell could bring relief to water‑constrained sectors such as agriculture and groundwater recharge.

Residents are encouraged to keep updated with official weather alerts and to take precautions against waterlogging and road hazards during the forecasted period.
