A video circulating online shows motorbikers sliding on a newly painted flyover in Kolkata, after a beautification drive left the surface slick. Authorities are investigating the incident.
A clip that has been shared widely on social media shows several motorbikers losing traction on a Kolkata flyover that was recently repainted as part of a city beautification drive. The video captures the vehicles skidding and struggling to maintain control as they navigate the slick surface.
The flyover, located near the central business district, was repainted last month to improve its appearance and curb deterioration. However, the paint used appears to have left a wet, high‑friction layer that has not fully dried, causing the sudden loss of grip.
Kolkata Traffic Police have opened an inquiry into the incident, citing concerns over road safety and the adequacy of post‑painting drying protocols. Officials have urged motorists to exercise caution while the surface continues to be inspected.
City authorities have not yet released a statement on the specific paint type or drying time, but they have acknowledged the need to review maintenance procedures to prevent similar accidents.
The incident has sparked debate on social media, with many commuters expressing frustration over the sudden change in road conditions and demanding clearer communication from the municipal corporation about maintenance schedules.
