Heavy rain caused extensive waterlogging in Kolkata for the second day in a row, bringing traffic snarls and disrupting commuters' journeys.
Kolkata was again swamped by heavy rain on Thursday, with water accumulating on major thoroughfares and low‑lying areas for the second straight day. The persistent downpour has left several parts of the city under ankle‑deep water, making movement difficult for pedestrians and motorists alike.
Traffic authorities reported severe congestion on key routes such as the Howrah Bridge, Sealdah Flyover and the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, where standing water forced many vehicles to slow down or turn back. Public transport services, including buses and local trains, faced delays and occasional cancellations as drivers navigated flooded lanes.
Local officials said emergency teams are on standby to clear drainage channels and assist stranded commuters. Residents were urged to avoid non‑essential travel, use alternative routes where possible, and stay updated through official alerts as the city continues to grapple with the monsoon‑season deluge.
