Indian filmmaker Kiran Rao has announced plans to adapt the popular South Korean series 'Reply 1988' for Indian audiences.
Indian filmmaker Kiran Rao, who has previously worked on projects like "The Lunchbox" and "The White Tiger", has revealed her intention to remake the acclaimed South Korean drama "Reply 1988" for the Indian market.
The original series, which aired in 2015, follows a group of friends and their families in Seoul during the late 1980s, blending nostalgia with heartfelt storytelling. Its success has sparked interest in adaptations across several countries.
Rao said the story’s universal themes of friendship, family bonds and coming‑of‑age resonate with Indian viewers, and she aims to localise the setting while preserving the emotional core of the narrative.
If produced, the project could open doors for further cross‑border collaborations and bring a fresh, culturally adapted version of a beloved Korean hit to India’s television and streaming audiences.
