The state’s anti‑narcotics drive, Operation Toofan, saw 69 additional suspects taken into custody, pushing total drug‑related arrests in Kerala beyond 10,000.

Kerala police continued their large‑scale anti‑narcotics campaign, Operation Toofan, on Tuesday, detaining another 69 individuals suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and consumption. The latest round of arrests brings the cumulative tally of drug‑related cases in the state to over 10,000 since the operation began earlier this year.

The seizures were carried out across multiple districts, with officials reporting that the suspects were intercepted during routine checks, raids on suspected hideouts, and intelligence‑driven operations. Authorities said the crackdown targets a wide network that includes low‑level users as well as higher‑up distributors.

State Home Minister Pinarayi Vijayan praised the police effort, stating that the numbers reflect a sustained commitment to curb the growing menace of narcotics in Kerala. He also indicated that the department will continue to intensify surveillance and coordinate with central agencies to dismantle remaining supply chains.

Legal proceedings are underway for the newly arrested individuals, and the police have warned that further actions will be taken against anyone found facilitating the drug trade. The operation is part of a broader state initiative to reduce drug abuse and related crime.
