Chief Minister P.S. Satheesan announced that Kerala will establish a specialised organ‑transplant centre within the next 30 months, aiming to boost the state’s medical infrastructure.
Chief Minister P.S. Satheesan told reporters that the state government has approved the construction of a dedicated organ‑transplant hospital, with a target completion timeline of 30 months. The project is part of Kerala's broader strategy to enhance advanced medical services and reduce the need for patients to travel out of state for complex procedures.
The proposed facility will be equipped with modern surgical theatres, intensive care units and a network for organ donation coordination. Officials indicated that the hospital will collaborate with existing medical colleges and research institutes to ensure high standards of care and training.
Funding for the venture is expected to come from a mix of state allocations and central government health schemes. The government also plans to launch awareness campaigns to encourage organ donation, aiming to address the current shortfall of donors in the region.
If completed on schedule, the centre will join a limited number of specialised transplant hospitals in India, positioning Kerala as a hub for organ‑transplant services in the southern part of the country.
