Kerala’s Home Ministry announced that police will start using autonomous robots to manage traffic and assist in disaster relief, as stated by Minister Ramesh Chennithala.

Kerala’s Home Ministry revealed that the state police will soon deploy autonomous robots to assist in regulating traffic flow and supporting disaster‑relief operations. The decision was announced by Minister Ramesh Chennithala, who said the technology will help reduce human exposure to hazardous conditions and improve response times.
The robots, equipped with sensors and real‑time communication modules, are expected to monitor congested intersections, guide vehicles, and relay live data to control rooms. In disaster scenarios, they can navigate debris‑strewn areas, locate victims, and deliver essential supplies.
Implementation will begin with pilot projects in selected districts, after which the police will evaluate performance before a wider rollout across the state. Training for officers on operating and maintaining the units is already underway.
Officials anticipate that the initiative will not only enhance public safety but also position Kerala as a pioneer in integrating robotics into law‑enforcement functions in India.
