Kerala Chief Minister Satheesan announced plans to develop Muziris as an international heritage tourism destination, including expanded water taxi and kayak services to Ezhikkara, Kottappuram and Azheekode. The initiative is part of the Muziris Heritage Project aimed at boosting regional tourism.

Chief Minister Satheesan made the announcement while addressing a gathering of tourism officials and local representatives. He stated that the government intends to develop Muziris into a globally recognised heritage tourism spot.

As part of this plan, the state will introduce additional water taxi routes and expand kayak facilities in the areas of Ezhikkara, Kottappuram and Azheekode. These services are expected to improve access to the historic sites along the backwaters.

The Muziris Heritage Project, launched several years ago, aims to preserve and promote the ancient port city’s cultural and archaeological significance. The latest move aligns with the project’s broader goal of attracting international visitors.

Officials said the enhanced water transport options will not only boost tourist inflow but also create employment opportunities for local communities involved in boat operations and hospitality services.
