Kerala Doubles Compensation for Wildlife Attack Victims and Farmers

The Kerala government has announced a policy to double the compensation paid to families of victims of wildlife attacks and to farmers who suffer crop damage from such incidents.

Under the new scheme, the amount that the state will reimburse for a death caused by a wildlife encounter and for losses incurred by crops will be twice the previous figure, according to the official statement.

The move is intended to provide quicker and more substantial financial relief to those affected by the state’s rich biodiversity, which has occasionally led to human-wildlife conflicts.
