Kerala appoints vegetarian Governor, sparking debate in Congress

The central government has named a new Governor for the state of Kerala, highlighting his well‑known vegetarian diet. While the Governor’s role is largely ceremonial, the personal detail has drawn attention from political circles. The Congress party, which is the main opposition in the state, has seized on the appointment to raise questions about the criteria used for such selections. Party leaders suggest that the focus on the Governor’s dietary preference reflects broader concerns over transparency in high‑level appointments. The Governor is expected to assume office in the coming days, where he will preside over state ceremonies and act as the President’s representative.
