Kerala and Karnataka Push for New Dams at South Zonal Meeting

During a South Zonal meeting of the inter‑state water management forum, officials from Kerala and Karnataka pressed for the sanction of additional dam projects. They argued that new reservoirs are essential to meet growing water demand for irrigation, drinking supply and power generation in their states.

The delegates highlighted that existing infrastructure is under strain due to erratic monsoon patterns and increasing population pressure. They presented preliminary site assessments and requested fast‑track technical clearances from the central committee.
