Kejriwal warns E20 blend harms engines and hikes sugar prices during Goa visit

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal addressed a gathering in Goa on Thursday, raising concerns about the nationwide rollout of the E20 ethanol‑fuel blend. He said the higher ethanol content is causing wear and tear in vehicle engines, which could increase maintenance costs for motorists.

Kejriwal added that the blend is also exerting pressure on sugar prices, linking the policy to rising costs for consumers and challenges for sugarcane farmers. He urged the central government to reassess the blend's composition and its economic impact.

While the Union Ministry has promoted E20 as a step toward fuel security and reduced oil imports, the Delhi leader called for a data‑driven review to balance environmental goals with practical realities on the ground.

The remarks come ahead of the upcoming review of the fuel‑mix policy, and Kejriwal indicated that Delhi will cooperate with the centre but expects adjustments to protect both vehicle owners and the agricultural sector.
