The Kaumi Insaf Morcha has announced a statewide bandh in Punjab for August 21, protesting the release of detained Sikhs and actions taken on Independence Day.

Jalandhar, Aug 21 — The political coalition Kaumi Insaf Morcha has called for a complete shutdown of public life across Punjab on August 21. The bandh is being staged to protest the recent release of Sikh detainees and to express dissent against measures taken on August 15, India’s Independence Day.

Organisers said the bandh will involve the closure of schools, offices, transport services and commercial establishments throughout the state. They urged citizens to observe the strike peacefully and avoid any acts of violence.

State authorities have been informed of the protest and are monitoring the situation. Police officials have warned that any disruption of essential services or law‑and‑order breaches will be dealt with strictly.

The move reflects growing tensions in the region over the handling of Sikh community grievances. While the bandh is expected to affect daily routines, the coalition has emphasized that the action is a non‑violent expression of dissent.

Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
