Karnataka to Roll Out PM Rahat Scheme, Covering Up to ₹2.5 Lakh for Accident Treatment

The Karnataka government will now implement the central PM Rahat scheme, offering financial assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh for treatment of road‑accident victims.
The state government of Karnataka has announced that it will adopt the central PM Rahat scheme, a health‑insurance initiative aimed at covering medical expenses for road‑accident victims.
Under the scheme, patients who suffer injuries in a road accident will be eligible for financial assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh, which can be used to pay for treatment, surgery and related medical costs.
The decision was made by the state health department after consultations with the central Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The rollout is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with the government setting up a dedicated portal for claim filing.
Officials say the move will reduce the financial burden on families and encourage timely medical care for accident survivors.
The scheme will be available to all residents of Karnataka, irrespective of their insurance status, and will be administered through the state’s public hospitals and selected private facilities.
