Karnataka authorities confiscated the Pfizer‑branded cancer drug EMBLAVEO among suspected counterfeit medicines worth Rs 4.91 crore and have set up a Special Investigation Team to probe the case.
The state drug enforcement agency in Karnataka reported the seizure of EMBLAVEO, a cancer medication bearing the Pfizer label, as part of a larger crackdown on counterfeit medicines. Officials said the drug was found alongside other suspected fake products during a raid on a storage facility. The confiscated items are valued at approximately Rs 4.91 crore, highlighting the scale of the illegal trade. In response, the Karnataka government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to examine the supply chain, identify the perpetrators, and recommend further action. The SIT will coordinate with central drug regulators and law‑enforcement bodies to ensure that the counterfeit drugs are removed from the market and that public health risks are mitigated.
