Karnataka officials approached Union Minister Amit Shah to discuss cooperation on Cauvery water sharing amid the Mekedatu dispute.

Karnataka's senior officials met Union Minister Amit Shah to present their case for a collaborative approach to Cauvery water allocation. The discussions focused on the ongoing Mekedatu row, where Karnataka seeks to develop a dam project on the river while Tamil Nadu opposes it.

Karnataka emphasized the need for a mutually agreeable framework that would ensure water security for both states and reduce inter‑state tensions. The state highlighted its willingness to share data and cooperate on water management initiatives.

Union Minister Shah acknowledged the concerns and said the central government would facilitate dialogue between the states. He reiterated that water disputes should be resolved through cooperative mechanisms rather than prolonged litigation.

The meeting is part of Karnataka's broader strategy to secure the Mekedatu project and maintain a stable water-sharing arrangement with Tamil Nadu.
