State minister DK Shivakumar confirmed that traditional Kambala races and a Tulunadu cultural tableau will be part of the upcoming Mysuru Dasara festivities.

DK Shivakumar, Karnataka's minister for water resources and irrigation, announced that the iconic Kambala buffalo race and a Tulunadu cultural tableau will be showcased during the Mysuru Dasara celebrations this year. The statement was made during a press briefing in Bengaluru, where the minister highlighted the state's effort to bring diverse regional traditions onto the national stage.
Kambala, a high‑speed buffalo sprint traditionally held in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, has become a symbol of Karnataka's agrarian heritage. Organisers plan to stage a simulated race as part of the Dasara tableau, allowing city visitors to experience the excitement without the logistical challenges of a live event.
The Tulunadu tableau will feature folk dances, music and crafts from the Tulu‑speaking region, aiming to promote the cultural richness of the southwestern coast. Officials said the inclusion underscores Mysuru Dasara's evolving role as a platform for representing the entire state's cultural mosaic.
Mysuru Dasara, a 10‑day festival that draws millions of tourists, traditionally centers on the historic Mysore Palace. This year's expanded program reflects a broader push to integrate Karnataka's varied traditions into the flagship celebration.
