The Karnataka health minister emphasized that maintaining food safety standards should be prioritized over aesthetic appeal in eateries.

Bengaluru, Karnataka – The state's health minister reiterated that food hygiene is the foremost responsibility of any restaurant, urging owners to focus on safety rather than ambience. In a recent statement, the minister highlighted that lapses in sanitation can jeopardise public health, regardless of a venue's décor or service quality. He called for stricter compliance with existing food safety regulations and announced plans to increase surprise inspections across the state.

The minister also warned that establishments failing to meet hygiene standards could face penalties, including temporary closure. He urged consumers to report any violations and assured that the health department will act promptly on such complaints.

Industry representatives welcomed the emphasis on safety but cautioned that any enforcement drive should balance rigor with support for small businesses adapting to new norms.
