A recent government survey estimates the state’s total loss exceeds ₹60,000 crore due to a sharp shortfall of monsoon (Mungaru) and winter (Hingaru) rains, crippling agriculture and groundwater resources.

The Karnataka government’s latest survey estimates that the state has incurred a total loss of more than ₹60,000 crore, primarily because of an acute shortage of both monsoon (Mungaru) and winter (Hingaru) rains.

The deficit of rainfall has triggered a severe drought across large parts of the state, leading to a sharp decline in agricultural output and a significant drop in groundwater levels.

Farmers are confronting widespread crop failures and reduced yields, which have deepened financial distress in the agricultural sector.

The survey highlights the scale of the crisis, underscoring the urgent need for measures to mitigate the impact of the drought on Karnataka’s economy.
