Karnataka expands BWSSB water supply mandate to entire Bengaluru Urban district

State officials announced that the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board will now serve the entire Bengaluru Urban district, expanding its mandate beyond the earlier Greater Bangalore Area boundaries. The decision aims to bring uniform water supply and sewerage services to all neighborhoods within the district, including rapidly growing peripheral zones. BWSSB, which traditionally managed water distribution within the core city, will have to coordinate infrastructure upgrades and extend pipelines to newly added areas. Authorities said the move is intended to address uneven water access and support the district's long‑term growth plans. Implementation will be phased, with priority given to regions facing acute water shortages.
