The Karnataka State Election Commission will publish draft electoral rolls on August 24, trimming Bengaluru's voter list from more than 1.03 crore to 56.11 lakh, excluding over 1.07 crore names.
The Karnataka State Election Commission (SIR) has announced that the draft electoral rolls for the state will be made public on August 24. Bengaluru, the capital city, currently records an electorate of just over 1.03 crore voters. In the draft, that figure is set to fall sharply to 56.11 lakh, meaning more than 1.07 crore names will be omitted.
The reduction reflects the commission's routine cleaning of the rolls, which removes duplicate entries, deceased persons and voters who have shifted to other constituencies. The draft list will be displayed at designated offices and online, allowing political parties, candidates and citizens to examine the data.
Stakeholders have a statutory window—typically fifteen days—to raise objections or submit corrections. Any grievances received will be considered before the final rolls are frozen for the upcoming elections.
The move comes ahead of the state's local body polls, where an accurate voter list is crucial for a fair contest. Officials say the exercise aims to ensure that only eligible residents are able to cast their ballots.
