Chief Minister Basavaraj Shivakumar has called on the corporate sector to assist Karnataka in modernising a thousand rural government schools.

Bengaluru, Karnataka – Chief Minister Basavaraj Shivakumar announced that the state will seek corporate participation to upgrade 1,000 government schools located in rural areas. The appeal was made during a press briefing where the CM highlighted the urgent need to improve basic infrastructure and learning outcomes for children in remote villages.

The targeted schools currently lack essential facilities such as well‑equipped classrooms, science laboratories, libraries and digital learning tools. By partnering with businesses, the government aims to channel corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds and expertise to bridge these gaps and bring parity with urban schools.

The state administration said it will set up a dedicated task force to evaluate proposals from interested companies, ensure transparent allocation of resources, and monitor implementation milestones. Officials expect the first phase of upgrades to begin within the next few months.

Shivakumar stressed that quality education is a cornerstone of Karnataka’s development agenda and that collaborative effort between the public and private sectors is vital to empower rural youth and reduce regional disparities.
