The Karnataka government urged exporters to tap free‑trade agreements to expand overseas sales as part of its ambition to reach a $1 trillion economy.

Karnataka’s state administration has appealed to local exporters to make fuller use of existing free‑trade agreements (FTAs) in order to increase their presence in global markets. The call was issued as part of a broader strategy to accelerate the state’s export volumes and diversify product destinations.

Officials highlighted that FTAs with major economies provide tariff concessions, streamlined customs procedures and market‑access benefits that can lower costs for Karnataka‑based manufacturers and service providers. By aligning export plans with these agreements, the government believes firms can achieve higher competitiveness abroad.

The state’s economic blueprint sets a $1 trillion gross domestic product target, a milestone that hinges on robust external trade. Leveraging FTAs is therefore presented as a critical lever to push Karnataka’s contribution to India’s overall growth trajectory.

While specific timelines were not disclosed, the administration indicated that increased export activity will also generate employment and stimulate ancillary sectors such as logistics, finance and technology services.
