The Karnataka government has integrated Right to Information (RTI) applications into its Sakala service, requiring citizens to register requests online within two days, with penalties for officials on delays.

The Karnataka government announced that Right to Information (RTI) applications will now be processed under the Sakala service, requiring online registration within two days of submission.

Under the new rule, citizens must file their RTI requests on the designated online portal within 48 hours, and the portal will generate a tracking number for each application.

The move aims to speed up information access and hold officials accountable; any delay beyond the stipulated period will attract a penalty on the responsible officer.

The Sakala initiative, launched in 2005 to provide time‑bound delivery of public services, is being expanded to include RTI to ensure compliance with the Right to Information Act.

Officials have been instructed to adhere to the timeline, and the penalty framework is expected to improve responsiveness across departments.
