The Times of India reports that Karachi’s weekend Garba celebrations feature Gujarati songs, offering a slice of Gujarat’s culture in Pakistan.
Karachi, Pakistan, hosted a series of Garba events on Sunday, drawing participants from the local Indian diaspora and Pakistani community alike. The gatherings were marked by traditional Gujarati folk songs, creating an atmosphere that closely resembled the festive nights of Gujarat.
Organisers highlighted the role of music in bridging cultural gaps, noting that the Gujarati repertoire was chosen to evoke the spirit of the western Indian state for those far from home. Attendees danced to the rhythmic beats, showcasing the cross‑border appeal of the folk form.
The Times of India featured the celebrations as a "Sunday Special," underscoring how the city’s Garba nights serve as a cultural conduit, allowing listeners to experience Gujarat’s heritage without leaving Karachi.
While the events were primarily social, they also reflected the enduring ties between the two regions, with music acting as a shared language that transcends national boundaries.
The festivities concluded with participants expressing appreciation for the opportunity to celebrate a tradition that feels both familiar and novel in the Pakistani setting.
