Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said Jammu and Kashmir can emerge as a competitive destination for Gulf Cooperation Council companies, signalling a push for new foreign investment.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told reporters that Jammu and Kashmir has the capacity to become a competitive hub for businesses from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). He highlighted the region's strategic location, improved infrastructure and policy reforms aimed at facilitating foreign investment. The statement reflects the state government's effort to diversify the economy and tap into the Gulf market's demand for new opportunities. Abdullah indicated that targeted incentives and ease of doing business measures are being prepared to attract GCC firms. The move is expected to create jobs and boost trade ties between the region and Gulf nations.

The CM's remarks come as part of a broader outreach to international investors, with officials planning roadshows and business delegations to the Gulf states. While specific projects were not disclosed, the administration signaled readiness to support sectors such as tourism, renewable energy and manufacturing.

Analysts note that positioning Jammu and Kashmir as a gateway for GCC companies could leverage its proximity to major sea routes and its emerging logistics network, potentially reshaping the state's economic landscape.
