The Jammu and Kashmir government announced a waiver of school fees for AAY‑eligible students and outlined a plan to upgrade K‑12 facilities in rural districts.

The Jammu and Kashmir government announced that school fees for students covered under the AAY scheme will be waived with immediate effect. The move is intended to lessen the financial burden on economically vulnerable families and encourage higher enrolment in schools. In parallel, the administration unveiled a comprehensive plan to upgrade K‑12 infrastructure across rural districts, including the construction of new classrooms, laboratories and the introduction of digital learning resources. The education department said the initiatives will be financed through state budget allocations complemented by central assistance, with implementation slated to begin in the upcoming academic session. Officials expect that fee waivers combined with infrastructure improvements will boost attendance and learning outcomes in the region’s remote areas.
