Chief Minister Omar Abdullah unveiled the 2026 Clean Gas Distribution (CGD) policy, aimed at widening clean fuel availability and encouraging industrial growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced a new Clean Gas Distribution (CGD) Policy for 2026, outlining the government's plan to broaden the reach of clean fuels across the union territory. The policy was detailed in a press release issued by the state administration, emphasizing its role in modernising the energy mix.
The CGD Policy seeks to facilitate the supply of cleaner fuel alternatives to households, transport operators and commercial enterprises, thereby reducing reliance on conventional fossil fuels. By streamlining distribution channels and encouraging private sector participation, the government aims to make clean energy more affordable and accessible.
State officials expect the initiative to act as a catalyst for industrial growth, with cleaner fuel inputs reducing operational costs for manufacturers and attracting new investments. The policy also aligns with broader national objectives of decarbonisation and sustainable development.
Implementation will be overseen by the Department of Industries and Commerce, which will coordinate with energy providers and local bodies to roll out the programme in phases. Monitoring mechanisms are being put in place to assess fuel quality, distribution efficiency and environmental impact.
The announcement marks a significant step in Jammu and Kashmir's effort to integrate clean energy solutions into its economic strategy, signalling a commitment to both environmental stewardship and industrial advancement.
