He referred to the Swachh Bharat Mission‑Urban (SBM‑U) and the second phase of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT 2.0) as the primary frameworks for the push. Both schemes allocate central and state funds for modernising waste‑collection systems, establishing segregation at source, and building treatment facilities.
The official noted that many towns still rely on outdated dumping practices, which compromise sanitation and tourism potential. Accelerating the rollout of SBM‑U and AMRUT 2.0 projects is expected to create jobs, improve public health, and align the region with national cleanliness targets.
