Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi gave a detailed update on when the PMEGP online portal will open, addressing the growing concerns of job‑seeking youth in the state.
Patna, Bihar – In a recent briefing, former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi provided a comprehensive update on the anticipated launch of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) online portal. He explained that the portal, which will streamline applications for self‑employment schemes, is slated to become operational in the coming weeks after final technical checks are completed.
Manjhi highlighted that the delay in the portal’s activation has added to the difficulties faced by Bihar’s youth, who already grapple with limited job opportunities and challenges in accessing district industry centre services. He urged aspiring entrepreneurs to stay prepared by gathering required documents and familiarising themselves with the scheme’s eligibility criteria.
The state government, according to Manjhi, is coordinating with the central ministry to ensure a smooth rollout, and a public awareness campaign will be launched simultaneously to guide applicants through the new digital process. This move is expected to accelerate the creation of micro‑enterprises and provide a much‑needed boost to the state’s employment landscape.
Stakeholders, including local NGOs and training institutes, have welcomed the update, noting that a functional online portal will reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks and expand reach to remote areas. The upcoming launch is being closely watched as a potential catalyst for youth employment in Bihar.
