The Anti‑Corruption Bureau in Jhunjhunu district detained junior engineer Deepika of the state electricity department for accepting a Rs 15,000 bribe to alter an agricultural power connection.
Jhunjhunu district’s Anti‑Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday arrested Deepika, a junior engineer with the Rajasthan Electricity Department, after a sting operation uncovered that she had taken a cash payment of Rs 15,000. The money was allegedly offered by a farmer seeking to have the electricity line for his agricultural connection rerouted.
According to the ACB’s statement, the transaction took place at the Chidawa office of the electricity department, where the engineer accepted the cash in exchange for issuing a new connection order. The department’s internal controls were bypassed, prompting the bureau to launch an investigation.
The arrested officer has been remanded in judicial custody, and the case has been forwarded to the district court for further legal action. The ACB has urged other officials to adhere strictly to procedural norms and warned that any deviation will attract stringent penalties.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about corruption in utility services across the state, prompting calls for stronger oversight mechanisms and transparent grievance redressal for farmers and consumers alike.
