After the Jharkhand High Court stayed the cancellation of a state recruitment drive, demonstrators clashed with police and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha workers.

The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday issued an interim order staying the state government's decision to cancel a recently announced recruitment drive for several posts. The court's stay has reignited tensions among aspirants who had been preparing for the exams.

Later that day, large groups of job seekers gathered outside the state secretariat in Ranchi, demanding that the recruitment process be resumed. The crowd was joined by workers of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), the ruling party in the state, who voiced support for the aspirants. Police deployed riot gear and attempted to disperse the assembly, leading to a sharp confrontation.

According to officials, stone‑throwing and the use of tear‑gas resulted in several injuries on both sides. Police reported a handful of arrests, while JMM representatives accused the administration of heavy‑handedness. The situation remained volatile as the protest continued into the night, with authorities urging calm while the legal battle over the recruitment continues.

The recruitment drive, originally slated to fill over 2,000 vacancies in various departments, has been put on hold pending further judicial scrutiny. The state government has not yet announced a revised timeline for the selection process.
