The Jharkhand Pollution Control Board has imposed a maximum permissible noise level of 125 decibels A-weighted for firecrackers, aiming to curb excessive sound pollution during celebrations.

The Jharkhand Pollution Control Board (JPCB) announced a new ceiling of 125 dB(A) for the noise generated by firecrackers. The limit is intended to reduce the high decibel levels that are commonly recorded during festive periods, particularly around Diwali.

Officials said the restriction aligns with the board’s broader mandate to control environmental pollution and protect public health. By setting a clear numerical threshold, the JPCB aims to make enforcement more straightforward for local authorities.

The board has indicated that compliance will be monitored through routine inspections and spot checks during the firecracker season. Violators may face penalties as prescribed under state pollution control regulations.

Stakeholders, including manufacturers and vendors, have been urged to adhere to the new standard and to promote quieter, low‑noise firecracker alternatives wherever possible.
