The Jharkhand government has directed relevant departments to identify and scrap vehicles that are 15 years old or older.
The state government of Jharkhand has issued a directive to all relevant departments to identify vehicles that are 15 years old or older and arrange for their scrapping. The order aims to curb the number of ageing vehicles on the roads, which are often unsafe and emit higher levels of pollution.
Under the directive, transport and motor vehicle departments will compile a list of eligible vehicles and forward it to the state transport authority. The authority will then coordinate with authorized dismantling units to ensure proper disposal and recycling of vehicle components.
Officials say the move is part of a broader effort to improve road safety and environmental standards across the state. The scrapping programme will also create opportunities for recycling industries to reuse metal and other materials from decommissioned cars.
The government has not yet announced a specific timeline for the completion of the scrapping process, but it has emphasized that the initiative will be carried out in a systematic and transparent manner.
