The Jharkhand government is developing a REDD+ roadmap to attract climate finance, aiming to strengthen forest conservation and meet national climate goals.
Jharkhand is formulating a REDD+ roadmap to tap into climate finance streams, according to recent reports. The plan seeks to align the state’s forest management practices with the global REDD+ framework, which rewards countries for reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.
By adopting the REDD+ mechanism, Jharkhand aims to secure funding that can support conservation projects, improve forest health, and create employment in rural communities. The roadmap will outline steps for mapping forest resources, monitoring carbon stocks, and establishing transparent reporting systems.
The state government is expected to collaborate with the central Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, as well as international donors and development partners, to implement the strategy. This initiative is part of India’s broader commitment under the Paris Agreement to enhance forest carbon sinks and curb greenhouse gas emissions.
