The Jharkhand state cabinet has sanctioned the establishment of 100 new Chief Minister schools and a scheme to provide free sanitary napkins to school‑going girls, aiming to boost education and health outcomes.

Ranchi: In a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, the Jharkhand cabinet gave the green light to a new education drive that will see 100 additional Chief Minister (CM) schools opened across the state. The schools are intended to offer quality, affordable education in underserved districts, with infrastructure upgrades and recruitment of qualified teachers as key components.

Alongside the school expansion, the cabinet approved a health‑focused initiative that will supply free sanitary napkins to girls enrolled in government and CM schools. The scheme aims to address menstrual hygiene challenges that often lead to absenteeism among adolescent students.

State officials said the combined programme will be funded through the existing education budget and central health schemes, with implementation slated to begin in the upcoming academic session. Monitoring mechanisms will be put in place to ensure timely distribution of supplies and to assess the impact on school attendance.

The announcements were welcomed by education and women’s rights groups, who highlighted the importance of integrating health measures with educational infrastructure to promote gender equity.

The cabinet plans to review progress annually and consider further expansions based on the outcomes of the pilot phase.
