The Women Wing of the Janata Dal (United) has announced a campaign aimed at gathering the views of Manipur's Members of Legislative Assembly on the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the forthcoming census. The initiative seeks to document legislators’ positions on how the NRC and census processes should be conducted and what safeguards should be in place.
The campaign, launched in Imphal, will involve outreach to all 60 MLAs of the state assembly. Participants are expected to provide written statements or brief interviews outlining their stance on the NRC and census matters.
JFD’s Women Wing said the effort is part of its broader engagement strategy to ensure that the perspectives of elected representatives are captured before key policy decisions are finalized. The organization plans to compile the responses and share them with the public and relevant authorities.
The campaign is expected to run over the next few weeks, with the collected data to be presented to the state government and the Election Commission of India for consideration.
"We want to make sure that the voices of our legislators are heard in the discussions about NRC and census," a spokesperson for the Women Wing said, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in the process.
