A Japanese student has secured compensation after spending 19 days in unjust custody in Bengaluru, following a human rights commission ruling in his favour.

A Japanese student was held in Bengaluru police custody for 19 days after a dispute at an English academy, during which he was accused of attempting to bribe officials. The student claimed the detention was unjust and that the allegations were fabricated. In a bid to avoid repatriation, he reportedly stole a police chair, hoping to prolong his stay in India. The Human Rights Commission reviewed the case and ruled in favour of the student, awarding him compensation for the unlawful detention.
